The free city of Rust is one of the oldest-established wine making regions worldwide. Rust owes its ideal wine growing conditions to its particular location. In the North the mountain Leitha serves as a protective wall, in the East the landscape stretches to the Pannonian plain.

Crucial to viticulture, however, is the micro-climate in the vineyards, which is a product of the extensive water surface of the lake, the topographical anomalies of the hilly country and the very specific interplay of sunlight and moisture.
